Walk of Fame History
One of the world's most magnetic tourist attractions, the Hollywood Walk of
Fame is located at Sid Grauman's Chinese Theatre in California. Since it's inception
in the 1930's Hollywood Boulevard boasts the hand and footprints of thousands
of stars. One of the first stars to place their hands and feet in cement was
Shirley Temple who did so in 1935. The first actual brass star was dedicated
in 1956, with Joanne Woodward being the first inductee. The idea was to honour
the celebrities who had contributed so much in the field of film, television,
music, radio and live theatre and to induct them in to a Walk of Fame where
their names, signatures and imprints would live on forever. The Hollywood Walk
of Fame has inspired a few similar attractions in other parts of the world.
Brigadier General Sir Michael Thielmann, Editor of the Special Millennium Edition
of the Walk of Fame book, said that the Australian Walk of Fame should not be
thought of as copy-cat versions of the original Walk of Fame, but rather as
positive efforts of Countries throughout the world, to honour the citizens who
have achieved fame and distinction in everything from Showbiz, Sports, The Arts/Business.
With the success of The Hollywood Walk of Fame, the opportunity has now been
captured for a similar concept in Australia. Retired entertainer and businessman
Mr Alan Black founded the Australian Walk of Fame. Mr Black envisages a walk
similar to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but one which has been moulded to the
needs of the Australian and local community. The Australian Walk of FameThe
Australian Walk of Fame is proposed for the sidewalk where the Johnny O'Keefe
statue is located outside Twin Towns Services Club in Tweed Heads. The venue
will be located on the NSW/QLD border on Australia's East coast, in one of Australia's
fastest growing areas. Tweed Heads is less than one hours drive away from the
Tourism Mecca Surfers Paradise and some of Australia's leading theme park attractions
including Movie World. The walk will comprise of Brass Star, Handprints and
Signatures of those Australian and New Zealand celebrities inducted to the Australian
Walk of Fame. We are Launching a major event for Australian Stars. We plan to
make the Australian Walk of Fame a prestigious and popular award and for the
first 2 years, stars will be inducted free. What will make the Australian Walk
of Fame huge? It will be the calibre of the stars inducted. We will not induct
the first star without the biggest of the big Australian stars agreeing to be
inducted. Members of each category, Show Biz, Sports, The Arts/Business, will
be selected to serve on the inductee committee, plus the Chairman and Vice Chairman.
This committee will be responsible for selecting the stars to be honoured. Stars
serving on the inductee committee need to be biggest of the big stars and agree
to be listed with a photo as inductee committee members on our website. This
will prompt other stars to commit to the award. Inductee Committee Members will
also probably be inducted themselves in due course. What stars would be will
serve on the Inductee Committee? The Chairman and Vice Chairman will either
email, fax, or phone the star, with the names of the possible walk of fame nominees
on the short list. All they do is vote their choice, it's as simple as that.
No meetings, no further contact with anyone but the Chairman and Vice Chairman.
Only the chairman and Vice Chairman need to know where and how to contact the
star. Only the Chairman and Vice Chairman know the results of the private and
confidential poll. e want the Australian Walk of Fame to be a national treasure.
As big as any given award for accomplishment. We want it to be every bit as
big and prestigous as the Hollywood Walk of Fame. We need your support. We need
your help
